Delacon Biotechnik
A second project (duration 2017–2020) is being carried out in cooperation with the firm of Delacon Biotechnik which is based in Steyregg. Delacon specializes in researching, developing and producing phytogenic feed additives. These improve the productivity and health of poultry, pigs and ruminants. The chief benefit for farmers is reduced costs for feed and consequently improved profitability. At the same time, phytogenic feed additives offer the greatest possible level of safety for consumers. And the lower ammonia and methane emissions also benefit the environment. Specifically, the cooperation, which is based on FFoQSI, examines the influence of phytogenic agents on the intestinal health of various types of animal (chickens, pigs and fish). Among the issues explored is a positive influence of the agents on the generation and function of intestinal nutrient parameters. A more efficient nutrient supply improves the animals’ health and at the same time the yield. To this end, various in-vitro methods are used, as are tissue samples from feeding trials. Another important topic is the influence of phytogenic feed additives on immunological parameters, specifically the reduction of inflammatory processes. In combination, improved nutrient transport and a strong immune system are important factors in, for example, reducing the amount of antibiotics used.
