The Polymer Competence Center Leoben GmbH (PCCL) is the leading Austrian center for cooperative research in the field of polymer technology and polymer science. Researcher / PhD position:
„Development and characterization of functional coating for tribological applications”
(Job-ID: 20190524)

Tasks:

  • Development of new coatings with self-repair functions, targeted for tribological demanding
    applications
  • Screening, selection and functionalization of ceramic materials for plasma deposition
  • Definition and development of material and characterization concepts for wear-resistant
    coatings with additional functionality
  • Screening and selection of compatible and 3D printable polymer substrates
  • Characterization of physico-chemical, mechanical, tribological and morphology properties of
    selected coatings
  • Study of adhesion and interface properties of the new coatings on various 3D printed structures
  • Close cooperation with international project partners from industry and research and regular
    presentation of results
  • Communication of research results to the scientific community (e.g. papers in peer-reviewed
    journals, talks at national and international conferences)

Required skills:

  • Above average master’s degree in materials science, polymer engineering and science, polymer
    chemistry, or similar
  • Profound knowledge in material science and structured / independent way of working
  • Personal initiative, skills for self-organization and teamwork, effective communication skills
    with the ability to communicate with partner companies and research organizations
  • Language skills in English and at least basic skills in German advantageous

  • Gross income € 2.929,- (for a classification as a PhD candidate; full-time employment, 14
    times a year)
