Researcher / PhD position: „Development and characterization of functional elastomers for medical applications”

  • Establishing new synthesis routes to introduce advanced functions (e.g. self-repair, damage monitoring) into elastomers, which are applied in the medical and health care sector
  • Screening, selection and functionalization of technical elastomers
  • Definition and development of material and crosslinking concepts for improving the mechani-cal performance of thin elastomer films with additional functionality
  • Characterization of physico-chemical, mechanical, thermal and morphological properties of elastomers
  • Preparation of thin elastomer films via coagulant dipping processes
  • Study of film formation performance, stimuli-triggered healing and efficiency of damage de-tection by microscopic methods
  • Close cooperation with international project partners from industry and research and regular presentation of results
  • Communication of research results to the scientific community (e.g. papers in peer-reviewed journals, talks at national and international conferences)

Required skills

  • Above average master’s degree in materials science, polymer engineering and science, poly-mer chemistry, or similar
  • Profound knowledge in organic chemistry and structured / independent way of working
  • Knowledge in elastomer chemistry is advantageous
  • Personal initiative, skills for self-organization and teamwork, effective communication skills with the ability to communicate with partner companies and research organizations
  • Language skills in English / basic skills in German are advantageous

  • Gross income € 3.072,- (for a classification as a PhD candidate; full-time employment, 14 times a year)
