Researcher position in the field of
“Tribochemical evaluation and performance characterization of functional wear resistant coatings“

 

Tasks

  • Development of novel multi-layered wear-resistant coatings in close cooperation with other research institutes
  • Evaluation of the tribological performance on polymeric substrates and influence of ambient conditions (moisture, temperature, etc.)
  • Investigation surface and bulk properties of deposited coatings
  • Spectroscopic characterization (XPS, FT-IR, etc.) of surfaces before and after wear
  • Investigation of hardness, mechanical properties, adhesion of coatings and impact of the deposition parameters on substrate properties
  • Research on chemical modification of solid lubricants
  • Investigation of hybrid lubrication and liquid lubricants on wear resistant coatings
  • Prototype manufacturing and pre/post treatment of substrates and coatings
  • Regular reporting and close interaction with several industrial partners
  • Communication of results in meetings and at scientific conferences

Required skills

  • Above average master’s degree in chemistry, polymer chemistry, polymer engineering and science, materials science or similar fields
  • Profound knowledge in polymer engineering and science
  • Experience with tribological test methods and tribochemistry preferred
  • Structured and independent way of working and good organizational skills
  • Strong personal initiative and independent way of working
  • Self-organization skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to communicate with multiple partner companies and research organizations
  • Good language skills in English (written and spoken) and at least basic skills in German are advantageous
