AI Accelerates Material Innovation

COMET-Success for MCL with Strong Upper Austrian Involvement

The Materials Center Leoben GmbH, a partner of the UAR Innovation Network, has secured funding approval for the COMET-centre “Integrated Materials Intelligence” (IMI) – with strong involvement from Upper Austria. The focus is on accelerating materials-related innovation along the entire value chain. These developments include intelligent materials with new combinations of properties, novel production processes, and the integration of innovative materials into products.
The research approach is based on the combination and utilisation of FAIR data, state-of-the-art computational models, and reliable experimental methods within AI-supported digital platforms. With voestalpine Stahl, AMAG, and Linsinger Maschinenbau, leading Upper Austrian companies contribute around 20 percent of the total industry funding. The Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH), part of the UAR Innovation Network, brings in its expertise in explainable artificial intelligence, complemented by the “IT:U Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria” as an additional academic partner. The Province of Upper Austria supports the research programme with approximately EUR 0.83 million over four years.
