Consolidated Innovation Strength in Security
01. June 2026Upper Austria Strengthens Security Technologies
Strong Participation of the UAR Innovation Network
Upper Austria is making targeted investments in forward-looking security technologies – and the UAR Innovation Network plays a central role in this effort: In the current funding call “Security Technologies & Solutions” by the Province of Upper Austria, eleven innovative research projects have been selected. Research centres from the UAR Innovation Network are actively involved in seven of these initiatives.
The funded projects were presented on 1 June 2026 at a press conference hosted by Sprecher Automation in Linz. The strong performance underlines the role of applied research as a key driver for ensuring technological sovereignty, resilience, and long-term competitiveness.
Broad Technology Spectrum – from Quantum Cryptography to Robotics
The selected projects cover a wide range of security-relevant technologies – from cybersecurity and post-quantum cryptography to autonomous robotics, as well as innovative storage solutions, lightweight construction, and sustainable propulsion systems. They clearly demonstrate the technological depth and strong application focus of the UAR Innovation Network:
- PROFACTOR – MULES (project lead): Autonomous mobile robotic systems for crisis and transition scenarios
- Software Competence Center Hagenberg – QRYPTOS (project lead): Risk assessment and migration towards post-quantum cryptography, as well as RAPID (partner): runtime attestation for the protection of industrial systems
- Linz Center of Mechatronics – RESCUeDrive (partner): Robust and sustainable electric drive systems, as well as involvement in SENTRY: physical security monitoring of existing industrial systems
- RECENDT – SECURE_ACCESS (project lead): Tamper-proof and durable ceramic data storage
- LKR Lightweight Metals Competence Center Ranshofen – LA-MARR (project lead): Innovative lightweight metal protection systems for special-purpose vehicles
Research as a Key to Resilience and Regional Strength
The results once again confirm the strategic importance of research and innovation for the security architecture of the future. Close cooperation between science and industry is creating solutions that are not only technologically leading but also directly applicable – thus making a sustainable contribution to strengthening Upper Austria as a business and research location.
