On July 8, 2024, UAR welcomed to Linz two prominent players from the Japanese research landscape: RIKEN, Japan's largest research and development agency, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), a Japanese administrative authority that supports academic research, finances research education, and promotes international academic exchange.

The visit enabled an intensive exchange of ideas concerning ongoing research activities and exploring possible fields of cooperation. Our Japanese guests were given a comprehensive overview of the Upper Austrian research landscape, including a visit to the Ars Electronica Center (AEC) in Linz, where they were shown the impressive capabilities of Deep Space 8k and the work of the Ars Electronica Futurelab.

During the many discussions, the visitors gained an insight into the UAR Innovation Network. They expressed interest in the variety of topics and ongoing projects, which offer numerous starting points for working together in the future. Visits to RECENDT - Research Center for Non-Destructive Testing - and Silicon Austria Labs rounded off the itinerary. In particular, the high-tech developments in the fields of photoacoustics and intelligent wireless systems left a lasting impression and provided a lot of subjects for discussion.

The visit offered numerous opportunities for getting together and exchanging ideas. We are confident that these meetings will lay the foundation for sustainable future cooperation. We would like to sincerely thank RIKEN and JSPS for coming to visit us and look forward to working together with them in the future!
