On 29 April 2025, the Innovation and Research Award of the Province of Carinthia was presented. Silicon Austria Labs GmbH won the prize in the Research Centres category for its project “Qarinthia”. This project uses quantum sensing in the development of an inertial navigation system for industrial applications. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, it proved possible to successfully implement quantum mechanics in a practicable system.

The other nominated projects were all from the UAR Innovation Network – and SAL was nominated for another project along with Wood K plus.

Wood K plus // “Flexible Wood” – Super Flexible Veneers

Flexible, smart, attractive and functional – Wood K plus presents an impressive new generation of wood veneers. In the “Flexible Wood” project, Wood K plus developed super flexible, attractive wood veneers for interior fittings. An innovative flexibilization method for industrial applications was devised in association with F|List GmbH.

SAL // Laser Ignition for More Sustainable Rocket Engines

In the “HERITAGE” project, Silicon Austria Labs developed a compact, fibre-coupled laser system for igniting environmentally friendly rocket fuels such as methane and hydrogen. The system makes precise multiple ignitions possible, is extremely robust and increases engine re-usability.
