External Assessment Gives UAR Top Marks
Since mid-2010, Upper Austrian Research GmbH (UAR) has acted as the Leading Research Company of the province of Upper Austria. The latest assessment carried out by Technopolis with the WIFO (Austrian Institute of Economic Research) and the Fraunhofer Society was extremely favourable to UAR. Key figures in the project sector, for research staff and for knowledge transfer have been significantly increased since the repositioning. The assessment focused particularly on the period from the company's restructuring as a holding in 2010 to the present day.

"The results of the external assessment confirm that the strategy of strengthening non-university research in Upper Austria by means of a dynamic research holding was the right decision," says Research Minister Hummer. "Upper Austrian Research GmbH is a widely respected player in the world of research and supports processes within the framework of research strategies and research programmes and the implementation of R&D strategies and research fields in Upper Austria."
The UAR serves as a research platform for subjects covered by the strategic business and research programme "Innovatives OÖ 2020", for instance, and in preparation for major calls for proposals, especially for the COMET Programme.
UAR performs the following key tasks for the province of Upper Austria:
- Leading company for non-university research
- Management and development of the associated companies' portfolios
- Service and support of the associated companies, e.g. brand development, coordination of submissions of K projects
- Intensification of the dialogue between research and society (culture of innovation in the province; Long Night of Research)
Excerpt from the Assessment:
"Over the past years, the UAR Holding has, since beginning to operate exclusively as a holding company, turned its attention to a number of important tasks which it has completed with great assiduousness and diligence. The three packages of tasks were developed, established and turned into routine processes by UAR in highly systematic procedures. All the stakeholders are universally confirmed to have shown a high level of professionalism, reliability and perseverance on these issues."
