Klaus Fronius Wins the 2016 RFT OÖ Award
The Upper Austrian Council for Research and Technology (RFT OÖ) chose Klaus Fronius from a list of impressive nominees as the winner of their 2016 award. Deputy Governor Thomas Stelzer presented the award along with Stephan Kubinger, MBA, the Council chairman, at a gala ceremony in the Linz Landhaus on 29 November 2016.
Klaus Fronius is an honorary senator at Graz University of Technology. He was at the head of the family business Fronius International GmbH for over 35 years before moving to the company’s supervisory board in 2012. During his time as managing partner (1980–2011) he played a key role in shaping the company’s development strategy and, as an early pioneer in the alternative power generating sector, introduced ground-breaking measures.
As one of the initiators of the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences – Campus Wels in 1994, Mr. Fronius made a vital contribution to establishing research into renewable energy sources in Upper Austria. In a video released by the energy region of Wels/Wels-Land/Eferding in 2012, he called for an end to the “battle for energy” and expressed the wish that everyone should have unhindered access to sufficient energy sources and above all that these should be generated by alternative means.
The awards ceremony was attended not just by numerous members of the Council and prominent representatives of education, research and business in Upper Austria, but many who had been his companions for so many years were also there to congratulate him.
