Prof. Gerfried Zeichen Wins 2014 RFT OÖ Award

The Upper Austrian Council for Research and Technology (RFT OÖ) chose Prof. em. Dr Gerfried Zeichen from a host of top-class nominees as the winner of its 2014 award. Upper Austrian research minister Doris Hummer presented the award at a ceremony in the Landhaus in Linz on 17 November 2014.

Gerfried Zeichen is professor emeritus of Vienna University of Technology and a consultant for fundamental research in industry as well as an author (his latest book is Ingenieure an die Schalthebel). Through his activities in the field of research and the numerous management positions he has held in industry, which include Carl Zeiss AG and Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG (now Magna), he has broken new ground for research in Upper Austria and beyond.

As first chair of the Vereinigung zur Förderung der Modernisierung der Produktionstechnologie in Österreich (VPTÖ) and founder of PROFACTOR GmbH in 1994 he has been influential in increasing the production capacity of Austrian industry by means of the research activities of production engineering. The positions he has held in industry and the academic world make Professor Zeichen a pioneer who has been instrumental in advancing integrated industrial automation.

The well-wishers at the awards ceremony not only included many members of the Council and leading representatives from education, research and industry in Upper Austria but also some of those who have worked with him for many years.
