Profactor: Andreas Pichler New GMAR President
Dr Andreas Pichler, CTO of the PROFACTOR research centre, has been chosen as the new president of the Austrian association for measuring, automation and robot technology (GMAR). He takes over the position from Prof. Dr Georg Schitter of Vienna University of Technology.
“We are at the beginning of an industrial revolution,” says Pichler. “Artificial intelligence, intelligent robots and additive manufacturing will have a profound impact on and permanently change the face of our factories, workplaces and product world. It is my goal to make the GMAR the first port of call for decision-makers from politics and industry. It is up to us to communicate the complexity of tomorrow’s industry to these stakeholders from a position of expertise and in a language they can understand, and to show which parameters Austria needs.”
Pichler wants the GMAR to establish itself as a trusted partner for industry of the future. He says, “I envisage something like a marketplace for research and development services with a clearly defined portfolio. That would be a real asset for local companies.”
The GMAR was founded in 2015 as a specialist association by three organizations: the Austrian Electrotechnical Association (OVE), Austrian Computer Society (OCG) and the Austrian Engineers’ and Architects’ Association (ÖIAV). As an Austrian platform it brings together science and research as well as industry and practitioners in the fields of measuring, automation and robot technology.
Andreas Pichler: Andreas Pichler (47) has been working and researching at the research company PROFACTOR since 2004. He is an expert in robotics and industrial assistance systems and has been the company’s Chief Technology Officer since 2011.
