Silicon Austria Labs: Modern Appliances for Greater Patient Safety

Digitalization has enormous potential for achieving further advances in medicine, although digital technologies are only slowly being introduced in medical practice. Silicon Austria Labs is currently conducting a joint project with the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft on digital health and patient safety.

The project aims to develop portable appliances that communicate with a central data unit and help to find the most promising form of therapy. The appliances should put forward suggestions based on patients’ earlier longitudinal data including a prognosis of how the illness is expected to develop.

The research units Electronic Sensors and Collaborative Perception & Decision Making at SAL are collaborating on this project which is scheduled to run for three years. The man in charge of the project is Rudolf Heer, head of the Electronic Sensors research unit.
