RFT Award Puts Science and Research in the Spotlight

The “RFT OÖ Award” is presented every two years by the Upper Austrian Council for Research and Technology. This year the prestigious award went to two personalities who have had a profound influence on research and technology in Upper Austria: Professor Gustav Pomberger played a leading role as a bridge-builder between the University of Applied Sciences and other universities. Dr Irmela Kofler is a young scientist who is revolutionizing environmental protection in steel processing with her research work.

SCCH: Supercomputer in Hagenberg up and Running

At Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) a significant milestone has been reached in the advancement of innovation and technology. The high-performance cluster (HPC) began operation. It is among the first in Europe to have an integrated HPE Apollo 6500 Gen10 Plus System.

SAL: ACR Award for PVRe²

Since 2006, the ACR Innovation Award has been granted jointly with the Federal Ministry of Labor and Economics. This prize honors the best innovations created in collaboration with ACR institutes. The submitted projects face a jury of experts as well as online voting, and the top three projects receive a price.

LKR: MAST3RBoost: Innovative Hydrogen Tanks to Aid Decarbonization in the Transport Sector

MAST3RBoost (Maturing the Production Standards of Ultraporous Structures for High Density Hydrogen Storage Bank Operating on Swinging Temperatures and Low Compression) is a European project that aims to create an industry-ready solution for storing H₂ at cryogenic temperatures (~-180 °C) and under compression (100 bar) by developing a new generation of ultraporous storage materials (activated carbons/ACs and metal-organic framework compounds/MOFs) for hydrogen-powered vehicles (road, rail, air and water transport).

WOOD K PLUS: From Primary School to a FEMTech Internship

Wood K plus has been engaged in gender activities for many years with the aim of promoting girls and young women. These activities include mentoring young (female) talents, the annual “Girls Day”, the annual “Science4 Girls” and summer internships through the FEMTech programme for high school and tertiary level female students. Since 2011, 69 students and 38 high school pupils have taken part in this work experience.

SCCH: A Scientist for a Few Hour

How does a computer “learn” and how can this process be exploited? Can artificial intelligence do art? Children are inquisitive and often ask tricky questions. They want to understand the world they live in, a world which is becoming increasingly digitized. At the “kids’ uni” in Hagenberg, Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) took young researchers on a digital journey, providing many answers, especially to questions about artificial intelligence, in a way the children could understand.

RISC Software: Technological Milestones for the Media Industry

Using artificial intelligence for natural language processing opens up new digital opportunities for the newspaper industry. New technologies relating to the fully automatic structuring of the data behind quality news articles form the basis for maintaining the independence and diversity of publishers of newspapers and periodicals in a digital environment. The two research centres Software Competence Center Hagenberg GmbH (SCCH) and RISC Software GmbH have now made significant progress on this issue on a research project carried out with the tech company Newsadoo.

Next Round for Top Research Facilities in Upper Austria

COMET competence centres perform application-oriented research at the very highest level. WOOD K PLUS: New FemTech Project WOOD4ALL

On 1 April 2022 the FemTech project entitled WOOD4ALL - Chancengleichheit und Frauenförderung (equal opportunities and promotion of women) was launched at Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH. Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH (Wood K plus) has been a pioneer of equal opportunities and gender competence in technological research institutions for many years.
