Pro²Future: Reliable wireless communication

Cars are becoming more intelligent every day. They are being fitted with more and more cognitive applications. Cognitive means that they are able to react autonomously to particular situations on the basis of information and knowledge. For this, reliable communication between numerous components is of crucial importance. The differences found in a car’s surroundings are considerable. Communication systems are therefore necessary that can be adapted perfectly and easily to the circumstances the vehicle finds itself in. To this end, Pro²Future is conducting the DRIWE research project.

LKR: Metal Components from the 3D printer

As a consortium leader and with the participation of RECENDT, LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen is taking the development of wire-based 3D printing in lightweight construction to the next level. The new COMET project “We3D” explores an innovative manufacturing technique: wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is seen as a future key technology in the manufacture of sophisticated geometries that meet the highest standards of stability in batch size 1 and small series production.

SCCH: Combating Insurance Fraud Using Data Analysis

Intelligent algorithms can detect patterns – and consequently anomalies – in large amounts of data quickly and reliably. This fact can be exploited to combat insurance fraud, as shown by a project being carried out by SCCH in association with the ÖGK, the Austrian health insurance provider.

SAL & LCM: IoT and AI Go Together Like the Chicken and the Egg

IoT (the Internet of Things) and AI (artificial intelligence) could be said to go together like the chicken and the egg. Artificial intelligence uses machine learning to turn data from the IoT into useful information, while the IoT adds value to AI through its connections and data exchange. The symbiosis of these two technologies (AIoT) is thus the next rung on the evolutionary ladder and is the aim of the InSecTT project being carried out by a consortium of leading international research institutions.

COMET: EUR 4 million for 3 New COMET Projects With Upper Austrian Involvement

“The government of Austria is granting EUR 4 million to three research projects with Upper Austrian involvement,” says Upper Austria’s economy and research minister Markus Achleitner. “This gives the Upper Austrian research community another significant boost in the context of cooperation between science and industry. Innovative techniques for industrial production, optimization of hydrogen technologies, and e-batteries – these important topics are being explored by three new research projects launched under COMET, the Austrian government’s competence centre programme, and co-financed by the Upper Austrian government. Upper Austrian research institutions and companies are playing a central role in all three.”

SCCH: Humans and AI – Team-mates of the Future

Systems based on artificial intelligence (AI) are the new team-mates of the future. They should be able to provide humans with active support at their place of work, especially where a high level of flexibility is required, for example in production in batch size 1. It is important that employees can trust their “artificial” colleagues and that the latter can communicate effectively with the former. Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) has launched and is leading an international research project called TEAMING.AI with these aims in mind. In conjunction with leading European partners from research and industry, this visionary concept is being implemented and demonstrated in the fields of quality inspection, machine diagnostics and accident prevention.
