UAR @ Innovationstag Mittelstand in Berlin

On 09/05/2019 Upper Austrian Research participated in “Innovationstag Mittelstand”, the innovation day for SMEs, to which it had been invited by the Austrian embassy in Berlin and which was organized by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The one-day trade fair was held amid the greenery on the premises of AIF Projekt GmbH in Berlin’s Pankow district. Upper Austrian Research GmbH staged a hugely successful joint presentation along with Business Upper Austria, the Upper Austrian business agency, in the Austrian pavilion in the international exhibition zone.

PROFACTOR: AUSTRIAN ROBOTICS WORKSHOP AND OAGM WORKSHOP 2019

The Austrian Robotics Workshop aims to bring together researchers, experts and practitioners working on various robotics topics to discuss current developments and challenges in robotics and its applications. The new edition in Steyr is primarily aimed at robotics competence in the production area. Companies are invited to present their activities. The conference will be complemented by the latest developments, which will be shown in an Exhibition.

Awards for Young Researchers at the 28th Leoben Polymer Congress

Polymer Competence Center Leoben GmbH (PCCL) and the Polymer Engineering Department of Montanuniversität Leoben hosted the 28th Leoben Polymer Congress on “Simulation in Polymer Engineering”. Besides numerous national and international lectures a major feature of this year’s Congress was the presentation of the first ever Polymer Science School Award.

RISC Software: Machine Learning Increases Safety of Rail Travel

The basic research project “iTPP 4.0” developed findings that make intelligent points for rail transport possible. The findings allow reliable prediction at any moment of potential wear and tear or defects in the points. To achieve this, machine learning algorithms derive decisions on planned maintenance from railway infrastructure sensors in a self-learning process.

WOOD: Student Camp in Linz and Lenzing a Success

From 25–28 January 2019 a “student camp” on the subject of biorefineries and industrial processes and products was held in Linz and Lenzing as part of the EU’s Bioenergytrain project. The participants came from nine European countries as well as North America and Africa. It is worth providing a review of the event from the points of view of the students and the organizers.
